Is Hunger a Side Effect of Using CBD?

CBD, one of the Cannabidiol compounds found in the cannabis plant, has been rapidly gaining popularity as an over-the-counter treatment for anxiety, depression, and a number of other issues. CBD does not result in a “high” like smoking marijuana, but some would-be users wonder if it has other side effects, like making people hungry, as marijuana is known to do.

If you’ve ever considered using CBD in any of its forms – like oil, capsules, or edibles – you might be worried about getting the “munchies” and gaining unwanted weight. Read on to learn more about the likelihood of this and to find out if CBD might be a good option for your lifestyle.

Is there a correlation between CBD and weight?

Somewhat contrary to popular opinion, research has shown that CBD oil and other products may actually help users lose weight, rather than pack on the pounds due to hunger pangs.

The human body has a natural endocannabinoid system that responds to various chemicals via two cannabinoid (CB) receptors, scientifically referred to as the CB1 and CB2 receptors.

CB1 receptors can primarily be found in the brain and central nervous system (spinal cord). CB2 receptors are most densely located in the immune system. Researchers have found that, in obese individuals, specifically, CB1 receptors tend to multiple in fatty tissues, which can, in theory, lead to weight loss.

There are also some theories that have not been fully researched. These include the idea that CBD can turn “bad fats” into “good fats,” lowering cholesterol and helping people burn unwanted fat faster.

Is CBD legal?

Some people like the idea of using CBD as a weight loss aid, but aren’t certain of its legal status due to the fact that it is derived from cannabis. While many cannabis products fall under the Farm Bill, which became U.S. law in 2018, and allows for the sale of items with THC content under 0.3%, some do not.

Furthermore, some states and municipalities have their own laws regarding CBD sales. You can discover the laws in your local area here

Are there risks associated with CBD?

CBD, like any prescription or over-the-counter medical product, can have certain risks associated with using it. In the case of including CBD as part of a weight loss regimen, for instance, the user should not be utilizing CBD alone. Instead, he or she should work with a qualified physician to come up with a weight loss plan that consists of dietary changes, exercise, and, perhaps, CBD.

Again, if you are interested in using CBD as part of your weight loss plan, speaking to a doctor first is imperative. This will keep you safe and healthy as you work to shed pounds!
